Expect high quality training, leading to a qualification that improves your chances of getting the job you want. Training providers differ in how they operate and what they offer - it pays to do your homework before choosing one.
Why a WorkReady training provider?
WorkReady training providers are Registered Training Organisations who have a contract with the Minister and offer subsidised training to eligible students. We call them WorkReady Service Providers.
WorkReady Service Providers are approved because they offer high quality training, strong links with industry and student support services.
You can expect an upfront assessment of your learning and support needs to ensure you have the best chance of success in your course of choice. The process will include assessing your reading and maths skills, and sometimes writing as well. Your WorkReady Service Provider will discuss with you whether there are any personal/life issues that could interfere with your training. By doing this assessment before enrolment your training provider can prepare a Learning and Support Plan for you.
Choosing a training provider
Before you decide to enrol in a Course, think about what you need and then compare what different training providers offer.
Use this checklist to help you compare different training providers.
As a learner you should ask yourself:
- What are my strengths and weaknesses as a learner?
- Do I need help with studies or can I study independently?
- Will this study fit in with my circumstances? Consider your work and family commitments.
Ask a training provider
Ask several training providers about:
- ways to do your training - in the classroom, workshops, work placement, online learning or by correspondence
- assessment - exams, assignments, presentations or class participation
- support services
- attendance - time and days you have to attend training
- your rights and obligations as a student
- fees and refund policy.
What you need to know before you sign a Contract
Read the Contract carefully and understand it before you sign anything or pay any money. Ask a friend to help you if there is anything you do not understand. It is important to know the attendance requirements and refund policy.
The 2013 Student Satisfaction Survey found that:
- 87% of respondents were satisfied with their government subsidised training
- 90% said they received sufficient information to decide which course to enrol in and
- 80% said their course was directly related to their current job or to a promotional or career position in their workplace or industry.
